In the mountains of Western North Carolina USA the leaves on the trees have changed into a brillant array of rainbow colors, even the brown leaves are changed into beauty by the red, gold, orange, yellow, and purple leaves that surround them. The mountains are dressed in their finest as one season gives way to the next.

I once heard that in the Autumn season, the sap in the tree begins to leave the leaves and branches and run back down into the roots to give strength to the tree through the winter months that bring ice and snow and the early spring months of rain and wind, so that the tree can withstand these pressures and not topple over. If the sap were still there in the branches it would freeze and cause the limbs to be brittle and break under the weight and pressure. The tree looks dead, but deep below the surface, there is a foundation being set to weather the weight and pressures and difficult times to come. Then as the seasons again begin to change and the warm weather comes, the sap begins to rise up and flow into the branches again, bringing new growth and life to the tree in order to produce much fruit, as the cycle of life continues.
We are all in different seasons of our lives. Many of us, I believe, are going through this time of change where the brillance of yesterday is fading and looks like death has come, but little do we know, that beneath the surface, a foundation is being laid that will weather the coming storms and in due season, bring growth, new life, fruit and a place of shade, peace, comfort, and rest to those around us in order that they too, may become stong and overcome the storms of life.
The changing of seasons always seems difficult but let the anticipation of what God has for you, just around the corner, in the new season, bring peace and excitment to your spirit as you rest in Him, knowing that He who has begun a good work in you, is faithful to complete all that He has started.
